Your name?
Shelley
Your Location (city, etc)
Gaylord
Please give us a short summary of your website?
It is blog that details our experiences and advice as we go through building our first log cabin.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
People who are interested in log homes are a different breed - they tend to like a return to nature, the simple life. And they appreciate the craftsmanship of a log home. I wanted to connect with people who share this same interest.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first website/blog and I launched it in November, 2007.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted to keep it simple and I know people are familiar with the term "log cabin." Also, I am very proud to be building in Northern Michigan so I wanted to specify that as well.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
I have viewed a few great log home blogs - there's not enough out there. Ours documents the step by step process we are going through and I think the photos and slide shows we have posted will give visitors a good vision.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I want my blog to evolve and who knows, maybe I'll publish a log cabin planning book!
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Right now it's not about money though I have google adsense on my site. I enjoy blogging as I go - so it's more fun than work!
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would have a streaming web cam on my building site so people could view the process from beginning to end. I would also have a log home forum where people could post questions and photos.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes - blogging is easy! Hopefully I get better and it stays interesting!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
The only headache was when my blog was accidentally identified as spam - but google corrected it.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Trying to be interesting and helpful with the planning, advice and experiences I post regarding building a log cabin,
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Web site directories and blogger review.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I didn't really have expectations but I didn't realize how vulnerable I would be to criticism.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I will keep the site up as long as possible and fine tune it to a way of life in a log cabin.
