Name of your website?WilsonSells - Brian Wilson Coldwell Banker 1st London Real Estate Services
Your name?
Brian Wilson
Your Location (city, etc)
London
When did you start your website and why?
WilsonSells.ca was started in the summer of 2006 and went public January of 2007. It was created to fill the gap for today's real estate customers. Statistics released from the National Association of Realtors show a large percentage of home buyers start their home search on-line, but this market was not being adequately covered in the London Ontario area.
Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc
I focus on providing leading edge real estate and client care services to achieve my clients dreams and expertly negotiate the best outcome for them. WilsonSells.ca provides an online portal filled with relevant and useful real estate information, including MLS listings and searches, community information, mortgage rates and information. I'm a firm believer in working for my clients (and potential clients) best interests, and in providing as much information as possible to them to help them make such an important decision as comfortably as possible.
What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?
Compiling the wide array of information into something tangible, and making it easy to find on the search engines. Obviously the easier it is for a client to find, the happier they will be, and the more frequently they will return.
What has been the easist part of operating your website?
The excellent support I've been getting from other website owners in helping arrange my site in a user friendly layout and making it SEO friendly.
What was your biggest mistake?
No getting it online sooner. The wealth of online home buyers and sellers is staggering, and by not getting my site in front of more people sooner, I'm sure I've missed out on a number of great clients.
Who maintains your website and why?
Top Producer, based in British Columbia hosts my site for me. They are an excellent source of real estate software including their Top Producer 7i database system along with their website platforms and a variety of other products which make my life as a realtor that much easier.
Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?
I've gained a much wider exposure to clients from around the world. I have clients I'm working with in places as far away as Korea to help buy real estate in the London area, to buyers and sellers right here in the city who are part of today's technologically advanced revolution.
What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?
Moving forwards, I anticipate more and more ecommerce solutions from all areas of our lives. Who would have predicted the widespread growth of the internet 15 or 20 years ago? Now, in today's fast-paced world, the best way to stay on the leading edge, is to make sure you find clients where they are looking, and that is becoming more and more on-line than ever before.
What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
SEO is extremely important to anyone operating a website. With millions and millions of websites, the only way to get noticed is to ensure you optimize your website so that it is search-engine friendly and try to get your website noticed on the first page (or two) of the major search engines. Take it from me, this is easier said than done, and many SEO companies either don't know how to accomplish this themselves, or are misguided in their approach. If you want to take full advantage of SEO marketers, do yourself a favour and do your homework in advance. Find out who their clients are and try searching multiple different keywords to see how those clients come up in the major engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.).
What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?
Search engines are increasingly becoming the Yellow Pages of today's scoiety. Without good search engines, people wouldn't be finding my website, or anyone elses. They are vital to the survival of the internet.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
In one word... backlinks. I use a combinations of PPC advertising and SEO strategies to help my website get better placement on the search engines.
What method has been least successful for promoting your website?
Print advertising. People who are on-line are more likely to follow their mouse than they are to take note of print advertising and logon to your website. Both are beneficial for sure, but on-line marketing for your on-line website just makes sense.
What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?
Removal of link farms. There are too many people creating bogus pages that they lace with PPC advertising, and then try to get the general public to their site as a "middle man" before the website the client actually wants. This is pure greed. Withou the "litter" this creates on-line, we'd all be that much happier I suspect.
Why do you feel people should do business with you over your competition?
I offer Coldwell Banker's guaranteed Ultimate Service. I have also designed and am proud to offer my exclusive "Have a Say in What You Pay" sellers program which allows people to list their homes with me for as low as 3.95% without having to haggle commissions. I have a 3 tier marketing program which my sellers can choose from. This offers Coldwell Banker's name brand service and recognition, along with my professional skills as a full-time realtor, for discounted commission rates.
