www.1stforcanada.com Interview

By Interviewer at 12/20/07 12:58

Name of your website?

www.1stforcanada.com

Your name?

Dale Wilson

Your Location (city, etc)

London

Please give us a short summary of your website?

A new website to advertise rental property, real estate and land in Canada. We accept properties from agents and private sellers and bring it all together in a very user friendly way.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I have created many sites for real estate agents in the UK and wanted to use my full knowledge of web design to create my own project.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website must have been wakelins.co.uk back in 1999, its changed alot since then but i still maintain it to this day.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wanted a name that was easily memorable and allows for further expansion - 1stForCanada could be used for jobs etc...

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Unique design, simpler than most rivals. Our aim was to create a site whereby potential buyers could find property listings in a fast efficient manner, most sites make you trawl through two or three page to get a listing - you can get straight to your listings from our homepage :)

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To create a successful property portal and expand into other countries.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Well the website has only just been switched on but i would guess that there is about a years worth of my spare time wrapped up in it.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

maybe invest in future technologies such as ASP.net

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I hope so! - generally if it got really big this would be a sign of its popularity and would translate into funds in the bank and thus allow us to invest in the upkeep and infrastructure.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

none as yet

What has been your biggest challenge?

finding the free time to allow me to work on the site, I have paying clients that always want their stuff done first so it was a case of balancing my resources.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Search engine ads

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

not really but its too early to tell, getting into the search engines takes a lot longer than i thought.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I have only just set it live but i have the time and resoruces to nurture it for two or three years even if its not as successful as i hope it will be.

Why do real estate agents use our competitors?

because they don't yet know about us and how we provide a cheaper, faster and more feature rich experience.

What is your website address?
