Name of your website?RentAccomSpain.com
Your name?
Mark
Your Location (city, etc)
Northants.
Please give us a short summary of your website?
A web portal for owners of Spanish property to advertise either their homes for rent or for sale. Also businesses based in Spain can advertise their services too.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
On looking at what was already available we thought the existing portals charged too much for what they offered, so we formed the company and launched the site to offer owners of property in Spain a place to advertise without the vast expense.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is our first website which we started early in 2007 when we started the business.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The name was chosen as it immediately lets people know what we're about - ie RentAccomSpain - we Rent Accommodation in Spain.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Although the main focus is to provide rental accommodation advertising space for property owners, there are also areas of the site where they can advertise their properties for sale and businesses. There are very few (if any) other sites which offer all of this for such a small annual fee.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To become the main Spanish portal for property and businesses.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Put time in propmoting the site, keep the site up-to-date and support our customers and success will follow.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Wouldn't really change the site much but would spend more promoting it.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes as the owners look after their own adverts. We help from an admin point of view.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Search engine placements although this is getting better all the time.
What has been your biggest challenge?
See answer to question above re: search engines.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
A combination of targetted offline advertising and SEO.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Understanding that without good search engine optimization, having a website is like having a shop and then not telling anyone where it is.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
We started the site early in 2007 and, as it forms the basis of our business, it will be online for as long as we can keep it there.
