Name of your website?Move to Spain SL - Property for sale in Valencia
Your name?
Vicky Padgett
Your Location (city, etc)
Alberic, Valencia
Please give us a short summary of your website?
Move to Spain is a fully legal, independent estate agency based in Valencia owned and operated by a British family. Move to Spain specialises in selling Valencia villas, Valencia apartments and Valencia building plots. The business was established in 2002 and has been selling Valencia property since that time.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Setting up estate agency as a limited company in Spain. Set up website to promote properties for sale mainly to the UK market.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
First website was launched in 2003 (same web address)
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Submitted 3 options for limited company name but mainly targetting people who are changing their lifestyle and coming to live in Spain.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Because we ourselves "moved to Spain" to start a new life and business we feel we are in a good position to help people do the same as we have overcome all the hurdles and pitfalls!
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To keep running the business but hopefully eventually go into property development, but very different to traditional building methods in Spain
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
First three years were very successful and we plowed all our life savings into developing the business. Last year and this year have been much more difficult but we are confident we can keep going.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
If only! I would go into developing my own style of housing - more modern, open plan and eco friendly.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Recruit more people but this time on commission only basis.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Too many to mention - incompetent accountants, frustration with Spanish law, developers holding back commission payments, the list goes on....
What has been your biggest challenge?
Paying taxes in advance on income not earned and waiting 3 years for a refund.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I am not sure, but I think appealing as an expert in the region offering a personal quality of service.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
No really as I used to look after the website of my previous employer in the UK
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Since 2003 would like to keep it indefinitely as in the future we will be adding bolt on lifestyle businesses through friends and contacts of ours.
How do you feel now?
I feel like I have practically given you my life story and would like you to help me find more direct customers relevant to my business. Thank you very much :)
